Galatians 3:1-5 (NLT)

Oh, foolish Galatians! Who has cast an evil spell on you? For the meaning of Jesus Christ’s death was made as clear to you as if you had seen a picture of his death on the cross. Let me ask you this one question: Did you receive the Holy Spirit by obeying the law of Moses? Of course not! You received the Spirit because you believed the message you heard about Christ. How foolish can you be? After starting your new lives in the Spirit, why are you now trying to become perfect by your own human effort? Have you experienced so much for nothing? Surely it was not in vain, was it? I ask you again, does God give you the Holy Spirit and work miracles among you because you obey the law? Of course not! It is because you believe the message you heard about Christ.

My Thoughts

Why is it so difficult to take the easier option.  All we have to do is believe, believe and believe.  Belief requires trust and trust requires letting down our protective walls.  The thing about religion is that it is how we try to make sense of our beliefs. Religion is a wall we build around our beliefs to keep them safe. The churches in Galatia moved away from simply believing towards a system of standardized beliefs.  A system in which they can check a few boxes and know that they are doing the “right thing”.  Everybody worshiping God in the same way.  Very soon it becomes all about the structure.  The structure requires very little faith, belief or trust.  I am inspired by these words to risk a little, to do something that God put on my heart instead the “perceived right thing” to do.   Can I challenge you to trust Jesus a little bit and extend his love to a work colleague or a total stranger.  Ask Jesus to give you something to share with somebody else and see how our faith comes alive.

Have a blessed day
